Alfried Krupp von Bohlen und Halbach, the sole owner of the Krupp company, died on 30 July 1967. He assigned his entire estate to a charitable foundation, which began its work in 1968 under the directorship of Berthold Beitz. Fifty years of the foundation, and fifty essays—this is no insipid chronology of good deeds performed. Rather, the book attempts a critical exploration of alphabetically sorted keywords: from “1967” and “America”, through “Generalvollmacht” (full power of attorney), “Kuratoriumsitzung” (meeting of the board of trustees), and “Tiefkühltruhe” (chest freezer), to “Zurück in die Zukunft” (back to the future). Aus den Quellen helps delineate the DNA of one of Germany’s largest foundations.
